Sierra Cabrera boasts an unequalled range of historic buildings in the ruins of two towns dating from 1570: Teresa and Cabrera. In Teresa a mosque/church with an impressive arch and vault remains, along with sections of two hydraulic mills, an aqueduct and many underground caves. In Cabrera there is the base of a tower, the walls of a mosque/church, two water deposits and much of the old walls of the town, together with the Cueva del Algarrobo and the old Araba settlements of Inox and el Tiján. Close to Agramasón are the remains of the Arab reservoir, and many other marvellous monuments such as La Carrasca, Los Moralicos, El Dondo, Cufría, Huerta Llana, Mófar and la Adelfa.
The entrance to Cortijo Grande is marked by a pair of majestic pillars here you will find the picturesque 9 hole golf course, sprinkled with individual villas laying in the folds at the base of the Sierra Cabrera mountains. After a game of golf enjoy a meal or drink under the vines at the local hostelry.

More information: The valley of Cortijo Grande, flanked by mountains that rise to almost 1,000m above sea level, is an ancient oasis in the traditionally arid region of Almeria. In the heart of a province claiming the only desert in Europe, El Cortijo Grande has become deservedly famous for its verdant landscape and profuse vegetation.
Turre is dedicated to the Inmaculada Concepción and the Ermita de San Francisco. In matters of food, Turre cuisine is best known for its strongly-flavoured local stews, dishes such as migas with tropezones, gurullos, olla de trigo, pelotas, caracoles, fritailla and ajo colorao, and its varied selection of deserts.

One site well worth a visit is the old town, the ruins of the banks of the Ibero-Roman city of Cadima, on the banks of the Río Aguas. Here, two hundred years BC, was a bustling city that left many valuable remains in the form of ceramics and coins, many of which are exhibited in the Museo de Almería today.
Nestling below the Sierra Cabrera Mountains and perched on a hilltop is the unique village of Mojacar. Feel transported in time as you wander through this old Moorish settlement, the narrow cobbled streets with its many intimate bars, shops ,and restaurants.

Carboneras, with its 16th century Castle of San Andrés, is a typical Mediterranean town, clean and tidy, and which is experiencing a growth of tourism. The architecture of the developments by the sea recalls once more the area´s Arab past, with dazzlingly-white cube-shaped buildings finished off with half-spheres, all set against the intense blue of the Mediterranean. This whole area reflects the indalica culture. Close by the town, on the beach at el Algarrobico, the locals still recall the Arab village built by David Lean to represent Aquaba, Jordan, for the filming of Lawrence of Arabia. Yet again, the magical light of Almería worked its effects, and for a few days this land was home to great stars of the screen, such as Peter O´Toole, Omar Shariff, Alec Guinness and Anthony Quinn.

Níjar National Park -  The nearby Cabo de Gata has extensive cliff-top walks and secluded coves and beaches.  It’s famous salt-beds are a haven for birds. As a taste of things to come in this very special park, the Reserve area of "Las Amoladeras" houses the Visitor Centre. Passing along a beautiful road between the Salinas Natural Site on one side and the Mediterranean on the other, we reach the Site´s bird observation post. This place is of great ecological importance, with a flamingo population which reaches up to 2,400 examples.
The superb flat beaches of San Miguel and la Almadraba move on to often steeply-dropping beaches, and the peace and quiet of the flamingos, golden dunes and whitewashed architecture of San Miguel de Cabo de Gata (with its echoes of Africa), are replaced by the high cliffs worn away by the sea. The lighthouse and advantage point of Cabo de Gata appear before us; 150 metres below, the sea strikes against and wears down the rocks. In the midst of the sea spray, the Mermaid´s Reef stands dark and ghostly. The south gives way to the east, and the coastline begins to climb north. Before stands the "Vela Blanca" watchtower against the backdrop of the Mediterranean.
Situated on the Aguas River the area is of high geological and botanical interest.Organised trips to the spectacular underground complex are available at Cuevas de Sorbas, all equipment is provided and visits last between 2 and 5 hours. A quiet village where houses hang on the cliff overlooking the river. Quite spectacular at night when the village and ravine is lit up. Artisan traditions are still practised such as ceramics iron and cane. Visit the pottery and see clay pots in the making.
Just off the motorway en route to Almeria, Nijar is Famous for its rugs, baskets and pottery.
Set in Europe's only desert. Made famous for filming The Good The Bad and The Ugly, Fistful of Dollars The Magnificent Seven and many more. Mini Hollywood the film set is open to the public giving live entertainment and also has a zoo of many species.
An authentic Spanish village, in existence since the time of the Moors. Bedar is found nestling in the lower slopes of the Filabres mountains. The village still retains many of the original cottages which line the narrow streets and little alleyways. Don't forget your camera you will be inspired by shots of the beautiful bougainvillea or almond blossom in January. The village has a number of good restaurants and bars offering a wide and varied cuisine. Market Day is Wednesday.
